Masonry wall (brick wall with mortar) undergone the earthquake using simplified micro approach Abaqus
In this example we intend to simulate the masonry wall (brick wall with mortar) undergone the earthquake in the Abaqus software
The duration of the earthquake is 10 seconds during which a transverse ground acceleration record will be applied to the bottom of the masonry wall
We use mortar to connect the bricks that mortar is defined as interaction property that interaction property consist of cohesive behavior and damage behavior

Actually the brick wall is modeled using the Simplified Micro approach
In Simplified Micro approach , we define cohesive behavior along with damage and damage evolution, then we assign it to the interaction surfaces between bricks

We use the “simplified micro approach” for modeling the masonry wall , and in this approach the bricks are modeled completely and assembled together and here the mortar is not modeled in a separated part but only the properties of mortar will be defined in the Abaqus software in form of Interaction property that interaction property consist of cohesive behavior of mortar and damage behavior of mortar
In this picture , you can observe the diagram of the “transverse ground acceleration record” having been applied to the brick wall
