Ultimate Consolidation Settlement of the OC Clay Layer using Cam Clay Plasticity in the Abaqus

This example been chosen from Example 4.4 Sam Helwany book

In this example we intend to simulate the ultimate consolidation settlement of OC Clay layer using CamClay Plasticity in the Abaqus software. The soil is composed of two layers , the top layer is sand with the height of 6 Meters and the below layer is Clay that is 1 Meter high 

In this example, the pre-consolidation pressure of the clay layer is equal to 200 K Pascal and the Situ Vertical Effective Stress in the center of the clay layer is equal to 53.7 K Pascal

Considering that the situ vertical effective stress in the center of the clay layer is less than the pre-consolidation pressure , we conclude that the clay layer is Over-consolidated or the same OC

The problem is done in 8 steps , in the Step1 that is Geostatic step , the effective weight of soil will be applied using the Body Force

In the step 2 , a compressive load with quantity of 50 Kilo Pascal will be applied Suddenly to the top surface of the soil

The consolidation process will be done in 6 consecutive steps , and their Time Periods are 1 , 10 , 100 , 1000 , 10000 and 100000 seconds respectively

The clay layer is assumed to be elastoplastic obeying the extended Cam clay model

We intend to calculate the ultimate consolidation settlement of the clay layer, in fact we draw ultimate consolidation settlement diagram in Abaqus
