Load capacity of a single pile in the multi-layer soil under vertical loading Abaqus
In this example we intend to simulate the long-term load capacity of a single pile in the multi-layer soil under vertical loading in the Abaqus software
The soil is composed of two layers, the top layer is NC Clay layer (Normally Consolidated) with a thickness of 10 m and the below layer is OC Clay layer (Over-Consolidated)
The pile is made of concrete with an embedded length of 25 m and diameter of 0.8 m

The question will be done in 3 steps and in the step 1 the specific weight of pile and soil will be applied , in the step 2 the interaction properties between the pile and soil will be changed and in the step 3 a vertical loading will be applied to the pile
In this example , ground water table (GWT) is on the ground surface
The soil is composed of two layers and the properties of each layer are different from the other

The coefficient of friction between the pile and the top layer is different from the coefficient of friction between the pile and bottom layer
Also, coefficient of lateral earth pressure (K0) for the top layer is different from coefficient of lateral earth pressure (K0) for the bottom layer
This question will be modeled based on drained condition. The drained condition will indicate low loading rate . Also during the analysis , the pore water pressure will be zero

We want to calculate the load capacity of the single pile using Abaqus software and then compare it with the beta method

The blue diagram is the load capacity of pile having been obtained by Beta method , the quantity of which is equal to 1325 K Newton
The brown diagram is the load capacity of pile having been obtained from the Abaqus software , the quantity of which is equal to 2100 K Newton
