Seepage (water leakage) from foundation and body of earth dams Abaqus

In this example we intend to simulate seepage from foundation and body of earth dams in the Abacus software

This Model is composed of clay core , filter , drain , shell and foundation. In this picture , clay core has been displayed by yellow, filter by blue , drain by red , shell by green, and foundation by grey colors

Different sections of the model have different properties

As you observe , the flow velocity in the drain is extremely high. Actually , the flow velocity is high in the drain because the permeability coefficient of drain is high

This causes the flow having got to the drain to go out of it rapidly. after that , the leaking water is quickly drained and there would be no water flow inside the body of earth dam

There is no water flow inside the body of earthdam and that is for the sake of the drain , since the water flow goes through the drain , but it won’t enter the body of earth dam

You can see the saturation contour in photo below. in fact saturation displays the level of water

Those areas having been distinguished and marked out by red color indicating that there’s water in these sections
