Product Overview
In this project, the hysteresis behavior of a three-story steel plate shear wall is investigated using Abaqus.
The numerical model is developed based on the experimental study and is used to investigate the structural behavior of the specimen under cyclic loading. The Abaqus results are compared with the experimental results reported in the reference study to evaluate the accuracy of the numerical model.
In this project, the TM3 specimen is simulated using Abaqus.
Model Description
The model represents a three-story steel plate shear wall based on the configuration described in the reference article.
The main structural components of the model are beams, columns, steel plates, and stiffeners.
The structural components are modeled using S4R shell elements in Abaqus. The geometry, material properties, and structural configuration are defined according to the information provided in the reference study.
The steel plate and surrounding frame members are assigned the material properties reported in the reference study. The steel plate is made of Q235B, while the beams and columns are made of Q345B.
Vertical and Cyclic Loading
A vertical load of 450 kN is first applied to the specimen in Abaqus. The vertical load is maintained during the subsequent horizontal cyclic loading.
The cyclic loading history is defined using the Amplitude option in Abaqus.
Buckling Analysis and Initial Imperfection
The first part of the project consists of a buckling analysis.
Buckling modes are extracted from the analysis and are then used to define the initial geometric imperfection of the numerical model.
Deformation and Failure Behavior
The deformation behavior of the TM3 specimen is investigated during the cyclic loading analysis. The Abaqus results are used to examine the development of out-of-plane deformation, steel plate buckling, and local buckling of the surrounding frame members.
The numerical deformation patterns are compared with the observed behavior of the experimental specimen to evaluate the ability of the Abaqus model to reproduce the main structural response.
Hysteresis Results
The force-displacement hysteresis curve obtained from the Abaqus analysis is compared with the experimental results of the TM3 specimen.
The numerical and experimental curves show good agreement in terms of the overall cyclic response, demonstrating that the Abaqus model can accurately reproduce the behavior of the specimen under cyclic loading.
Validation
This project has been validated against the results reported in the reference article.
The numerical results obtained from Abaqus are similar to the results reported in the article, demonstrating that the numerical model can reproduce the structural response of the three-story steel plate shear wall.
