Product Overview
In this project, the hysteresis behavior of a steel plate shear wall connected to beams only is investigated using Abaqus.
The numerical model consists of a steel plate, beams, columns, and hinges. The steel plate is connected only to the beams, while there is no connection between the steel plate and the columns.
In this model, the beams and columns are connected using hinges.
The S1 specimen is modeled in Abaqus.
The Abaqus results are compared with the experimental results reported in the reference article to evaluate the accuracy of the numerical model.
Steel Plate Connection
The steel plate is connected only to the beams. There is no connection between the steel plate and the columns.
Buckling Analysis and Initial Imperfection
The first part of the project consists of a buckling analysis to determine the critical buckling modes of the steel plate.
The extracted buckling modes are then used to introduce an initial geometric imperfection into the model before applying the cyclic loading. This approach allows the numerical model to account for the influence of initial imperfections on the nonlinear response of the steel plate shear wall.
Cyclic Loading
In the second part of the project, a cyclic loading is applied to the top of the model.
The loading history is defined using the Amplitude option in Abaqus.
The model is then analyzed under repeated loading and unloading cycles to investigate its hysteretic response.
Hysteresis Results
The force and displacement results obtained from Abaqus are extracted and processed to obtain the force–displacement hysteresis diagram.
The numerical hysteresis response is compared with the experimental results reported in the reference article.
Experimental Validation
The numerical results obtained from Abaqus are compared with the experimental results reported in the reference article.
The comparison focuses on the hysteretic response and the overall structural behavior under cyclic loading.
The numerical results show good agreement with the experimental results.
