This Abaqus tutorial is designed
to help you understand how to calculate the
deflection of a beam under a triangular line load
using the Abaqus software and
Strength of Materials.
In this training, we solve the problem once using the
Abaqus software and once using
Strength of Materials. Finally, the results
obtained from Abaqus are compared with those obtained from
Strength of Materials.
Problem Description
In this problem, a triangular line load is
applied to the beam, and the resulting
deflection of the beam is calculated.
The length of the beam is 1 m, and its
cross-section is a square with a side length of
0.02 m.
The main objective of this problem is to calculate the
deflection of the beam caused by the triangular
line load and compare the results obtained from
Abaqus with those obtained from
Strength of Materials.
Beam subjected to a triangular line load.
Abaqus Simulation
First, the beam is modeled and analyzed using the
Abaqus software. The deflection of the beam
resulting from the applied triangular line load is obtained from
the Abaqus results.
Deflection of the beam calculated using Abaqus.
Deflection of the beam calculated using Abaqus.
Strength of Materials Solution
Next, the same problem is solved using the principles of
Strength of Materials. The beam deflection is
calculated based on the triangular line load and the properties
of the beam.
Deflection of the beam calculated using Strength of Materials.
Comparison of Results
Finally, the results obtained from the
Abaqus software are compared with those
obtained from Strength of Materials.
As observed, the results obtained from the
Abaqus software are quite equal
to those obtained from Strength of Materials.
