This tutorial focuses on the calculation of reaction force
at point B using the Abaqus software and the
Analytical Solution.
The reaction force is first calculated using the Analytical Solution.
The same problem is then modeled in Abaqus, and the reaction force at
point B is obtained from the Abaqus results. Finally, the results
obtained from both methods are compared.
Problem Description
In this problem, the structure consists of two connected beams.
The length of beam AC is 25 inches, while the length
of beam BCD is 40 inches.
A linear load of 50 lb/in is applied to beam AC.
The main objective is to determine the reaction force at
point B and verify the Abaqus result against the
Analytical Solution.
Beam structure with the applied linear load and support at point B.
Analytical Solution
First, the reaction force at point B is calculated using the
Analytical Solution.
The reaction force obtained from the Analytical Solution is equal to
186.6 lb.

Abaqus Simulation
The same structure is then modeled in the Abaqus software.
The linear load of 50 lb/in is applied to beam AC,
and the reaction force at point B is obtained from the Abaqus software.
The reaction force at point B obtained from the
Abaqus software is 186.67 lb.

Comparison of Results
Finally, the reaction force obtained from the
Abaqus software is compared with the result obtained
from the Analytical Solution.
As observed, the results obtained from the Abaqus software are
very close to those obtained from the Analytical Solution.
The Analytical Solution gives a reaction force of
186.6 lb, while the Abaqus result is
186.67 lb.
