This Abaqus tutorial is designed to help you understand how to calculate the maximum deflection of a beam under a sinusoidal line load using the Abaqus software and Strength of Materials.

In this training, we solve this problem once using the Abaqus software and once using Strength of Materials. Finally, the results obtained from Abaqus are compared with those obtained from Strength of Materials.

Problem Description

In this problem, a sinusoidal line load is applied to the beam, and we intend to calculate the deflection caused by this line load.

The length of the beam is 1 m, and the cross-section of the beam is a square with a side length of 0.02 m.

The main objective of this problem is to calculate the maximum deflection of the beam using Abaqus and Strength of Materials and then compare the results obtained from both methods.

Abaqus Simulation

First, the beam is modeled and analyzed using the Abaqus software. The deflection of the beam caused by the sinusoidal line load is obtained from the Abaqus results.

Strength of Materials Solution

Next, the same problem is solved using the principles of Strength of Materials. The deflection of the beam caused by the sinusoidal line load is calculated using the corresponding analytical formulation.

Comparison of Results

Finally, the results obtained from the Abaqus software are compared with those obtained from Strength of Materials.

As observed, the results obtained from the Abaqus software are quite equal to those obtained from Strength of Materials.
