Product Overview

In this project, the hysteresis behavior of a steel plate shear wall with an opening is investigated using Abaqus.

The numerical model is developed based on the experimental study reported in the reference paper. The model consists of two RBS beams, two columns, a steel plate, and several stiffeners.

Cyclic loading is applied to the upper beam, and the nonlinear hysteretic response of the shear wall is obtained from the Abaqus analysis.

Model Description

The model represents a steel plate shear wall with an opening based on the configuration used in the reference experimental study.

The main structural components include two RBS beams, two columns, a steel plate, and several stiffeners. The geometry and required properties are defined in Abaqus according to the information provided in the reference paper.

The numerical model is developed to investigate the nonlinear response of the shear wall under cyclic loading.

Buckling Analysis and Initial Imperfection

The project consists of two main analysis stages: buckling analysis and hysteresis analysis.

First, a buckling analysis is performed to obtain the buckling modes of the shear wall.

The obtained buckling mode is then used to introduce an initial geometric imperfection into the numerical model.

This procedure helps the numerical model better represent the initial imperfections of the experimental specimen.

Cyclic Loading

Cyclic loading is applied to the upper beam of the shear wall according to the loading protocol used in the reference experimental study.

The loading history is defined using the Amplitude option in Abaqus.

The structure is then analyzed under repeated loading and unloading cycles to investigate its nonlinear hysteretic behavior.

Hysteresis Analysis

The force and displacement results are extracted from Abaqus after the cyclic loading analysis.

These results are used to obtain the Displacement–Force hysteresis diagram of the steel plate shear wall.

The hysteresis response provides information about the nonlinear behavior of the shear wall under cyclic loading.

Experimental Validation

The numerical results obtained from Abaqus are compared with the experimental results reported in the reference paper.

The comparison focuses on the Displacement–Force hysteresis response and the overall structural behavior under cyclic loading.

The Abaqus results are in good agreement with the experimental results, demonstrating the ability of the numerical model to reproduce the behavior reported in the reference study.
