Simulation masonry wall (brick wall with mortar) Abaqus

 In this example , we simulate masonry wall (brick wall with mortar) under compressive load and Transverse force in Abaqus software

 We use mortar to connect the bricks that Mortar is defined as interaction property that interaction property consist of cohesive behavior and damage behavior

 Compressive load is 0.24 MPa and Transverse force is 6600 N

Actually the brick wall is modeled here using the Micro approach

In Micro approach , we define cohesive behavior along with damage and damage evolution then we assign it to the interaction surfaces between bricks

In this example, we obtain failure mode in masonry wall

You observe failure modes in masonry walls in figure below

You observe the comparison between abaqus results and real results in picture below

During the analysis by applying compressive load and Transverse force, Rocking failure mode is appeared
