Product Overview

In this project, the hysteresis behavior of a steel plate shear wall with RBS beams is investigated using Abaqus.

The numerical model is developed based on the experimental study reported in the reference paper. The model consists of two RBS beams, two columns, one steel plate, and several stiffeners.

Cyclic loading is applied to the upper beam, and the nonlinear hysteretic response of the shear wall is obtained from the Abaqus analysis.

Model Description

The numerical model represents the S2 specimen from the reference experimental study. The model consists of two RBS beams, two columns, a steel plate, and stiffeners. The geometry, material properties, and structural details are defined in Abaqus according to the information provided in the experimental study.

The numerical model is developed to investigate the nonlinear structural response of the shear wall under cyclic loading.

Buckling Analysis and Initial Imperfection

The project consists of two main analysis stages: buckling analysis and hysteresis analysis.

First, a buckling analysis is performed to obtain the buckling modes of the shear wall.

The obtained buckling modes are then used to introduce an initial geometric imperfection into the numerical model.

This procedure helps the numerical model better represent the initial imperfections of the experimental specimen.

Cyclic Loading

Cyclic loading is applied to the upper beam of the shear wall according to the loading protocol used in the reference experimental study.

The loading history is defined using the Amplitude option in Abaqus.

The structure is then analyzed under repeated loading and unloading cycles to investigate its nonlinear hysteretic behavior.

Hysteresis Analysis

The force and displacement results are extracted from Abaqus after the cyclic loading analysis.

These results are used to obtain the force-displacement hysteresis diagram of the steel plate shear wall.

The obtained hysteresis response is used to evaluate the nonlinear behavior of the shear wall under cyclic loading.

Experimental Validation

The numerical results obtained from Abaqus are compared with the experimental results reported in the reference paper.

The comparison focuses on the hysteresis response and the overall structural behavior under cyclic loading.

The results obtained from the Abaqus model are in good agreement with the results reported in the experimental study.
