Project Overview

This Abaqus tutorial is designed to help you understand how to calculate the maximum deflection of a beam under a concentrated force using the Abaqus software and Strength of Materials.

In this training, we first calculate the maximum deflection of the beam using the Abaqus software. Then, the same problem is solved using Strength of Materials. Finally, the results obtained from Abaqus are compared with those obtained from Strength of Materials.

Problem Description

In this problem, a 300 N concentrated force is applied to the end of the beam.

The length of the beam is 1 m, and its cross-section is a square with a side length of 0.02 m.

The main objective is to calculate the maximum deflection of the beam caused by the applied 300 N force and compare the results obtained from Abaqus with those obtained from Strength of Materials.

Abaqus Simulation

First, the beam is modeled and analyzed using the Abaqus software. The deflection of the beam caused by the applied force is obtained from the Abaqus results.

Strength of Materials Solution

Next, the same problem is solved using the principles of Strength of Materials. The maximum deflection of the beam is calculated based on the concentrated force, beam length, and cross-sectional properties.

Comparison of Results

Finally, the results obtained from the Abaqus software are compared with those obtained from Strength of Materials.

As observed from the results, the results obtained from the Abaqus software are quite equal to those obtained from Strength of Materials.
