This Abaqus tutorial is available is designed
to help you understand how to calculate the
vertical deflection of a model using the
Abaqus software and the
Analytical Solution.
In this example, the vertical deflection of point A
is first calculated using the Analytical Solution.
Then, the same problem is modeled and analyzed using the
Abaqus software. Finally, the results obtained
from Abaqus are compared with those obtained from the
Analytical Solution.
Problem Description
As shown in the figure, the model consists of a
lever AB and a rod BC.
A force of 450 N is applied to
point A.
The length of the lever AB is
500 mm, while the length of the
rod BC is 600 mm.
The main objective of this problem is to determine the
vertical deflection of point A using both the
Analytical Solution and the
Abaqus software, and then compare the results
obtained from the two methods.

Analytical Solution
First, the vertical deflection of point A is
calculated using the Analytical Solution.
The vertical deflection obtained from the Analytical Solution is
equal to 59.82 mm.

Abaqus Simulation
Next, the same model is created in the
Abaqus software. A force of
450 N is applied to point A, and the
vertical deflection of point A is obtained
from the Abaqus results.
The vertical deflection obtained from the
Abaqus software is equal to
60 mm.

Comparison of Results
Finally, the vertical deflection of point A obtained from the
Abaqus software is compared with the result
obtained from the Analytical Solution.
The Analytical Solution gives a vertical deflection of
59.82 mm, while the result obtained from
Abaqus is 60 mm.
As observed, the results obtained from the
Abaqus software are
precisely concordant with those obtained from
the Analytical Solution.
