Simulation FRP-reinforced masonry wall ABAQUS

 In this example ,we simulate masonry wall (brick wall with mortar) reinforced with FRP in Abaqus

 We use mortar to connect the bricks that mortar is defined as interaction property that interaction property consist of cohesive behavior and damage behavior

We use adhesive to connect between the bricks and FRP that adhesive is defined as interaction property that interaction property consist of cohesive behavior and damage behavior

Actually the brick wall is modeled here using the Micro approach

In Micro approach , we define cohesive behavior along with damage and damage evolution, then we assign it to the interaction surfaces between bricks

We use Elastic Lamina and Fail Stress for definition FRP properties

The FRP consists of two layers that The thickness of each layer is 0.5 mm

As you observe , Rocking failure mode has been created in a masonry wall without FRP , while in a masonry wall having been reinforced by FRP , the rocking failure mode has been prevented and no rocking failure mode has been created in a masonry wall having been reinforced by FRP

The equivalent plastic strain (PEEQ) is lower in a masonry wall having been reinforced by FRP

We intend to evaluate Tsai-Hill , Tsai-Wu and Azzi-Tsai-Hill failure criterion which are used for composites. According to Tsai-Hill failure criterion , if the quantities of Tsai-Hill is lower than 1 , the composites will not sustain damage and failure and if Tsai-Hill quantities are higher than 1 , the composites will sustain damage and failure
