Simulation of Consolidated Undrained (CU) Triaxial Test Abaqus

This example been chosen from Example 5.7 Sam Helwany book

The soil has been considered in form of a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 5 cm and height of 5 cm

The triaxial test is done in two steps , in the first step the soil is subjected to a uniform confining pressure from all sides and in the second step , a vertical load is applied to the soil until failure

In first step the confining pressure of 210 kPa is applied at the top surface and the right side of the soil

Second step is the shearing step with duration of 100 seconds

This example is modeled on undrained conditions, so the loading rate must be fast , and a short time period should be considered for it

The top and bottom surfaces of the soil are impervious in consolidated undrained tri-axial test model , so that the possibility of drainage from these two surfaces would not be provided
